We're happy to announce that we've added this feature!
After configuring this flow from your Customer Portal Settings, when customers pause their subscription they'll be prompted to reschedule their next fulfillment instead.
Essentially pausing their subscription for a specific period of time.

A workaround for this is to not allow them to pause, and force them to contact customer service to pause and then ask how long they'd like to pause for and simply change the next order date rather than pausing.
